Matthew Newkirk
Born in Australia, lives and works in Brisbane.
Matthew Newkirk’s work speaks to the power of the visual image in contemporary society and its ability to mediate our perceptions of news, commerce and social relations.
Utilising the same mediums and signifiers that deliver messages to us on a daily basis, Newkirk's creative practice investigates how mainstream media disrupts and distorts information. His research contributes to a new understanding of how power structures utilise new technologies and contemporary mediums in order to sustain their influence.
In 2024, Matthew Newkirk received his PhD from the Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University.
